What Shapes They Come In - Gutter Profiles
Gutters come in a variety of sizes and shapes, which are referred to as “profiles”. They are called this because when looking at the cross section of a gutter, the shape it forms is its namesake. They can be “half round” (also known as “u shaped”), “quarter round”, “box” or “K-shaped”(also known as “ogee shaped”). Whatever the profile of gutter, all come in typical sizes of 5 inches to 7 inches. The size of your gutter depends on the type of roof on your home and the amount of rainfall in your area. The standard size for homes is normally 6 inches, while 7 inches is for larger buildings.
Whether you prefer a more decorative style or a purely functional profile, you will find one that compliments your home. In newer homes, however, designers have found that K-shaped gutters are more aesthetically compatible than the shapes of other profiles.
